It is pretty interesting to see game developers trying out new things that haven’t really been done before and an upcoming game for mobile called Spells of Genesis is one of those games. What is this game doing that hasn’t really been done before? Well the big feature is that Spells of Genesis will be using the Bitcoin Blockchain for the game’s economy.
The game itself is a combination of a TCG and an arcade game. Players will be heading out into the world of Moonga (which was actually the world in the company’s first release) where you will be encountering plenty of opponents to do battle with. The battle system is Spells of Genesis focuses on both strategy and skill which blends both the use of your cards and a more standard type of arcade gameplay. However it is the in-game economy that is really interesting.
Spells of Genesis will have the entire in-game economy powered by the Bitcoin Blockchain. It is a bit hard to explain but essentially because the in-game economy (the currency being BitCrystals) is ‘powered’ by the Bitcoin Blockchain, you can literally do whatever you want with the cards in your collection because they are also tied into the blockchain. In other games the cards you have you don’t really own, they are just locked to your account. However in this game, and how the economy works, you actually own your cards so you can do whatever you want with them including trading or selling them completely independent of anything to do with the game itself. In other words the player base will help fuel the economy of the game through the use of selling and trading of cards.
We may not be explaining it the best. We encourage anyone interested in this game, and especially the economy of it, to read the developer’s description of how it will all work. It will be interesting to see how well this new system works. The game itself will be free-to-play when it is released. As for when that will be, right now there is a Summer 2015 time frame.
