Stardew Valley version 1.5 has just gone live on PC, with console versions to follow. Described by developer Eric Barone as the game’s “biggest update yet”, version 1.5 adds new game options, a farm, and more.
The new farm is called Beach Farm, and naturally that means you can harvest fish. You can also forage, and scavenge goods that wash up on shore. What you can’t do, however, is grow crops – or at least not without difficulty. Barone recommends that newcomers start with a more conventional inland farm where the soil isn’t basically sand.
The newly added Advanced Game Options allow you to customize your playthrough. Barone suggests that returning players try out the “remixed Community Center bundles”, which randomize the bundles you receive.
Stardew Valley also boasts a new split-screen co-op mode, which you can access by building a cabin for up to three other players and then adding them in the game menu.
Other new features include, but are not limited to, new people to meet, new goals, new items, new quest types, new farm layouts, new character events, ducks that can swim, chairs that you can sit in, beds that you can move, secrets, fish tanks, home renovations, and more.
It’s not clear when the 1.5 update will come to mobile. According to Barone, “there’s no timeline yet”. But it looks like it’s going to happen.
