Fed up of all of that pay-to-win in your favourite Android games? Well, so is the developer of Tarisland, an upcoming cross-platform MMORPG that prides itself on its anti-pay to win stance.

Yes, it’s free-to-play and features a cash shop, but the official site claims that you can’t purchase anything that provides you with a gameplay benefit. Let’s hope that’s true.

What’s Tarisland Like as a Game?

It’s a cross platform MMORPG that aims to bring back the gameplay of classic World of Warcraft. You explore an open world, participating in quests, seeking treasure, and finding hidden locations.

The best part is that there’s no auto-pathing or any automatic play whatsoever. Those features have plagued mobile MMORPGs in recent years, and it’s nice to see a game return to the genre’s roots.

Are There Different Race and Class Options?

Okay, so here’s where things get a little concerning. On the official site there are a nice array of classes, including Ranger, Paladin, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Bard, and Barbarian. Each of them have two specialist class options, changing their play-style entirely.

The downside? Classes appear to be locked in terms of race and gender. That means if you want to play as a warrior, you may be locked to a human male. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

When Does the Closed Beta Begin?

A closed beta begins on June 27, and the mobile version is exclusive to Android. It’s only available in select regions though, including Brazil, Canada, the Philippines, and the UK.

It also launches on PC in closed beta, and you can play it across the globe on that date. As we mentioned earlier, it’s a fully cross-platform game, so you can play across both platforms.
