The Exit 8 has dropped on Android, bringing a mixture of elements. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, it’s priced at $3.99. It’s a walking sim with a twist and an eerie vibe that makes you question every step you take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
The Exit 8 lets you wander through a seemingly endless underground passageway that looks like a Japanese metro station. You get stuck in a loop where the tiles, lights, posters and even the one man walking towards you just keep repeating.
The real task is spotting anomalies. Maybe a poster has a different graphic than before, or the lights flicker just a bit too much. Or an obvious one like a river of blood flowing instead of a floor. The game’s whole mechanic is about noticing the subtle changes and reacting fast.
If you spot something weird, turn back. If you don’t, keep moving. The goal is to make it to the eighth exit without messing up. In other words, spot and react to the anomalies correctly eight times in a row. Else, you start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The design is inspired by the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms. The setting itself is modelled after real Japanese metro stations, like Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. You can feel the influence in the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture.
The game lets you actively engaging with your surroundings, looking for the tiniest details that might signal danger or reality bending. The way it forces you to question your memory and perception makes every run feel a bit different.
The Exit 8 was first dropped for PC in November 2023. It took the devs about nine months to develop the game. Once out, the game had 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. It’s now out on mobile, so grab it from the Google Play Store.
