A week ago we reported on an upcoming MMORPG called Albion Online which was about to start a Summer Alpha testing phase for players who have purchased either the Epic or Legendary Founder’s Packs. We also mentioned that this Alpha would be starting this week and sure enough the gate have opened and the Summer Alpha has begun.
Since this is a closed Alpha testing phase, only people who have purchased either one of the above mentioned Founder’s Packs will have access to the game during this testing period. This is the second Alpha phase this game has had, the first being closer to the beginning of this year.
For those of you not familiar with this game, or missed our previous coverage, Albion Online is an open world MMORPG which also features a lot of sandbox-style gameplay. There is everything from questing (both solo and within groups), guilds, raid bosses and dungeons, to building your own house and furnishing it and everything in between. You can even build your own little village with different building that other players can interact with. The economy is player-driven as well, so jobs like farming, blacksmith, enchanting and so on all play a part in the game’s economy.
If you played in the first Alpha, here is what is now available in this Summer Alpha that wasn’t available in the original testing phase earlier this year:
– Hellgates: enter hell dungeons and engage in tense PvE fights against the demons of hell as well as 5vs5 PvP battles
– Missions & Factions: players can now do combat, crafting, gathering and transport missions for 4 of Albions factions in order to receive Silver and buy special faction gear
– Anti-Zerg measures: groups larger than 5 now appear on the game’s minimap for easier recognition, new spells dealing higher damage the more targets are hit, hellgates only allow groups of 5 to enter a hell dungeon, etc.
Basically there is very little in Albion Online that you can’t do, and the game is fully cross-platform compatible. So you’ll be able to log into the game via your PC, then log out and jump back into the game on your table while you’re away from your computer.
