Ticket to Ride is now letting you take a virtual train ride through Japan with its latest expansion. Marmalade Game Studio and Asmodee Entertainment have dropped the Japan Expansion for their digital version of the board game.
Help Build the Train Network
For the first time ever, the Japan map from the physical game is on digital platforms. But it’s a little different from the board version. You’re no longer just building your own train empire. Instead, you get to pitch in and help build a national Bullet Train network that everyone can use.
It’s cooperative, sort of. You can try to be sneaky and let others do the work while you rake in points. But then the game has a built-in karma system!
Dodge your Bullet Train duties and say goodbye to 20 points when the final scores hit. So, you’ll have to be a little bit helpful, even if you’re planning to sabotage your friends later.
Ticket to Ride has also added a couple of new characters with the Japan Expansion. One’s a travel blogger, Nakanishi Kimiko, who seems to be vibing with the festival circuit and her dog.
The other is Moriyama Isamu, a gyōji which means a sumo referee. He brings in more of Japan’s historical flavour, adding a lot of local personality beyond just maps and trains.
Ticket to Ride Has Upgraded Trains with the Japan Expansion
Your collection is getting a small upgrade. The expansion adds two new trains and two carriages. The first one is the Ichi Eki Saki train and the Tsuki Sleeper carriage for your relaxed travel plans. Then there’s the Isogaba Maware train paired with the Hayai carriage which is super-fast and efficient.
With spring showing up, the Japan map is probably going to hit extra nice with its seasonal vibes. The Japan Expansion is out now and ready to download if you’re looking to mix up your Ticket to Ride sessions. Check out the game from the Google Play Store.
