The Tower of Fantasy revenue has skyrocketed in recent months, with the popular gacha game making almost $500 million in 2022. This isn’t overly surprising, as the game had a huge launch back in August last year – especially considering the fact that it was favorably compared to Genshin Impact during its global release.
The Success of Tower of Fantasy
In our personal opinion, the game is immensely different from Genshin Impact. The overall aesthetic and combat style of the game isn’t the same at all, yet gacha players still like to compare the most successful games in the genre.
The Tower of Fantasy revenue certainly proves the popularity of the game, which is largely thanks to the continuous updates throughout the latter half of 2022 and the start of 2023. The game definitely doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
While the hype has died down a little, the gacha game still has a loyal player base.
Tower of Fantasy even ended up in the top 10 best-selling iOS games of 2022 a total of 5 times! This is a fantastic feat considering the game is fairly new and hasn’t even reached its first-year anniversary yet. However, it’s important to note that a lot of gacha games do in fact make a ton of money every year – even if the game itself is “dying”.
The Act of Spending
There will always be people willing to be a whale or a dolphin (players willing to spend lots of money on the game for pulls) when it comes to this genre, but this means that it is also a highly competitive space. Therefore, the gacha games that do make it into the top 10 are clearly something to pay attention to.
Will Tower of Fantasy ever surpass the popularity of Genshin Impact? Only time will tell, but other long-running gacha games already struggle to keep up with the success of the open-world fantasy RPG.
Tower of Fantasy in itself is a brilliant game, but it has a ton of competitors surrounding it. With tons of gacha games coming out every year, the pressure is on.
