Scaleform have been in the UI (User Interface) industry for some time now specializing in user interfaces for some pretty mage PC/console games. Their update to GFx, version 4.0, will be bringing new features and optimizations for game developers in the mobile arena to use when creating their user interfaces for their games.
So some random gaming site called The SlowDown took the time to site down and talk to Epic’s Vice President, Jay Wilbur, to talk about development of games on the mobile platform among other things. A major part of being successful in the mobile gaming industry is actually making some money off your product whether it be through ads, paid downloads or in-game purchases, revenue is important. You can have the greatest game in the world but if you can’t pay your bill, you can’t support your product.
YoYo Games has officially announced Android support in their ever popular Game Maker software. Game Maker allows people to create games very easily, to the point of drag-and-drop easiness should you really be a true beginner in the world of game development. Coming in two versions, the Lite is free while the Pro costs a little bit of cash.
Good news for everyone who has wanted to try the Android App Inventor by Google but haven’t been able to, you can now! Announced earlier this afternoon on Twitter was the opening of the App Inventor for everyone to use. This means you can head over there now and start mucking around with it and make your first Android App.
Rocket Bunnies by Defiant Development has been staring me in the face all day on AppBrain. Sitting there in the top ‘Hottest Apps’ spot all day, defiantly waiting for me to play it. Once downloaded, I was treated to the beginning screen of what would become a very addictive game to play on my Nexus One.
One of the two main cross-platform social gaming platforms has received a pretty big update. After listening to developers and user feedback, Scoreloop has released version 2.0 of their SDK. Developers can now add even more features to their games and users have a lot more options available to play around with.
This may cause an upswing in mediocre games being brought to the Android Market, it may not. It could bring a lot of cool retro-ish type games instead but for right now there is no way to tell. One thing is for sure though, it will be interesting to see what comes out of YoYo Games’ drag-and-drop game development program called Game Maker which will soon support Android.
Reckless Racing is one of the better, if not the best, racing game available for Android devices. Between that and Pocket Racing you should have a pretty good grasp on your racing game addiction. Interestingly enough, Pixelbrite has come out to say that part of their success is in thanks to LocDirect which helped in the localization process.
