Google likes to add different sections to showcase different types of games and applications on Google Play. This has been anything and everything from free-to-play games, to applications that are tools for a specific purpose, to genre specific categories. Some of these categories stay, while others end up disappearing after a short amount of time.

One of the features that Google Play has been seriously lacking since its inception was the ability to use promo codes. Apple’s iTune store allows developers to make promo codes to give out copies of their games and apps, but it is something that Android has been missing all this time. Well it appears that Google has finally added the ability for developers to make promo codes as well through the developer’s console.
Recently Google added the ability to stream app and game demos from Google Play that developers can use to show off a game or app online via a browser. Now Google is taking advantage of this feature themselves by offering up that feature within Google Ads themselves.
If you didn’t manage to spend all of your money over the past couple of days, whether it be on Black Friday itself or the days surrounding it with all the sales, today begins the online version of Black Friday called Cyber Monday. To start off our Cyber Monday coverage, Google has put up a massive sale on Google Play across all categories. Technically this sale started Saturday but the real bulk of it appears today.
One thing people have wanted for some time now is to be able to send Google Play credit to other people. Well today we sort of have that ability now as Google will now let people send credit as a gift through email. Before everyone gets crazy and starts sending Google Play credit all over the place, this is only for US residents right now.
Android developers will have a new option for their applications and games starting next year that will add an official ‘Ads’ tag to their products on Google Play. This was originally announced back during Google I/O where games and apps in the Designed for Families program have had an “Ad-Supported” tag in their listings. Now Google is ready to expand this to all Google Play games and applications.
Android developers within certain countries now have the option to set the price of their apps and in-game purchases to a lower amount than before. This new change is now available within the following countries: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Hungary, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Phillippines, Poland, Peru, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
Up until today anyone who publishes an Android game or application onto Google Play had a limit as to how high of a price they could charge. If you’ve been using Android since it was released, you may remember a long time ago a few applications popping up that were ridiculously priced, ranging from $99-$200. We’re not sure what happened to those but we do know the average pricing of apps and games on Google Play is between $0-$5, with a decent amount being $5+ but rarely over $10. Square Enix, of course, is one of those exceptions to the rule, with games regularly priced at $10-$15.
Google has decided to expand the size limit for APK files on Google Play. The announcement came yesterday as Google announced that the APK file size limit has doubled, going from 50MB to 100MB instead. This is the second or third time Google has done this since the inception of the Google Play store.
Right now if you want to buy a Google Play gift card to use, or to give to someone else as a gift, you have a set amount you can buy. The most common denominations being $10, $25, and $50, although there are others out there as well. However, if you want to do an unusual amount for some reason, you don’t have much option outside of either rounding up/down the amount you want to buy in order to fit one of the current Google Play gift card denominations. That, however, looks to be changing this Fall.
