It seems as though the ghostly Nexus S is starting to make public showings… well at least to people in-store. Best Buy first had a bit of a hiccup on their website. It seems as though they got a little excited and accidentally posted an update to the mobile phones section and under T-Mobile there was an area labeled Nexus S and now photos are out!

Google’s Andy Rubin sat down with PC Mag to talk about Android in general from the current status of it to the future version of Android “3.0”, a.k.a Gingerbread. Gaming on Android came up in his answers and it look that Google hasn’t been ignoring it as Andy Rubin comes straight out and says that Android gaming has been underserved so far.
The modern day app store has changed smartphones as we thought we knew them. Android market and iOS app store each have several hundred thousand great applications that many couldn’t imagine their lives without. However for Android, games seem to have stood still until recently. Changing is on the horizon however, especially with the release of social gaming networks like OpenFeint and recent flood of iOS games coming to Android.
Google obviously hasn’t slowed down in the least when it comes to gaming especially in the social arena even with Mark Deloura leaving last week. Google has confirmed another purchase, this time it is SocialDeck. SocialDesk is a Canadian based social gaming company which is still basically a start-up but apparently they have something that Google wanted.
Mark DeLoura was only hired by Google about 5 months ago to fill the much needed position of Games Developer Advocate. After 5 months being with Google, Mark announces that he has left. This is the second big name Google has lost over the summer from their gaming department with Android developer market lead Sun Hu Kim leaving earlier.
It is funny how these things work out sometimes. Ask a lot of questions and you end up receiving the answers eventually. Yesterday we posted about the response from Sony Ericsson about the PSP Go-like Android phone rumored to be in developed. We did think that for someone who didn’t know what we were talking about that their answer was too clean. Well it was!
Almost a week ago reports circulated around starting with Engadget then us and everyone else about a possible phone being developed by Sony Ericsson resembling the PSP GO and supposedly running Android 3.0 upon release. Obviously to everyone who comes here this is like a wet dream to us. More information was needed so the digging started.
Yes the title makes you go “what?!” but Engadget is reporting that Sony Ericsson is working on an Android 3.0 gaming device which, according to the Engadget mock-up, looks a lot like a PSP with phone capabilities. With a slider featuring gaming controls in the phone, this looks to be exactly what the gaming sector of Android needs and looks like every mobile gamers dream.
While it is no surprise that Google has been buying up companies and as of late companies dealing with social gaming but there really hasn’t been much said as to whether Android will see any benefit. In our previous article about Google’s latest purchase of Jambool (Social Gold) that we could see the Freemium business model becoming acceptable on the Android market.
Well Google seems to be on a spending spree as it is being reported that they have just dropped $55million on in-game currency company Jambool. The company Jambool is responsible for their flagship product Social Gold which is an in-game currency for developers of social games to use. This comes after last weeks purchase of Slide and things are starting to look interesting.
