Niantic cancels their GDC 2016 talk and Pokemon GO demo in favor of more development

We don’t talk about cancellations at shows too often, mainly because it really doesn’t happen too often. When it does happen, it’s usually not for a game we are watching. However, this particular cancellation is about a game we’ve been following for awhile now. One game we were pretty eager to see in action, and hopefully get some hands-on time with, was Niantic’s upcoming Pokemon GO title.

Nintendo releases an official timeline for their first mobile app, Miitomo. Pre-registration begins in two weeks.

Miitomo, Nintendo’s upcoming “social toy” of an app, now has a timeline for release that is official. For those unaware of what Miitomo is, and missed our previous articles about it, this is essentially a Tomodachi style of game but using Miis (The Nintendo Wii/Wii U avatars). Per Nintendo’s announcement today, prospective players can soon pre-register for their Miitomo account, beginning on February 17th.

Nintendo’s upcoming NX system may actually be two devices in one

Nintendo this year is planning to finally start revealing details about their next system called the NX. Recently this system was in the news the other day because of the apparent rumor that it will come with the ability to work with mobile devices, PCs, and possibly other consoles. Today news is coming out that takes things a step further, making it all the more interesting, with the fact that the NX may actually be two devices.

Nintendo confirms its first mobile game release will arrive in March 2016

Whether or not you consider Nintendo’s first offering for mobile users an actual game, the company has come out today to confirm when Miitomo would be landing on mobile devices. Originally announced in the Fall of last year, Miitomo is Nintendo’s first of five planned releases for mobile users, all of which will be published by DeNA after the two companies formed a partnership last year.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima discusses the company’s mobile game plans

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima did an interview with Time and during that interview he touched on a few different topics, one of which is the company’s mobile game plans. Up until the past few months, it was thought that Nintendo would be releasing some premium priced games on mobile. Currently they have 5 games planned for release onto mobile platforms between now and April 2017.

Nintendo confirms today that all mobile games in development are free-to-play titles

Today Nintendo held their earnings call where the company confirmed some news that we have all been guessing at being true. All of Nintendo’s mobile games that are currently in development will be free-to-play titles with optional IAPs coming with them. This was pretty much a given fact back when Nintendo announced their publishing deal with DeNA for five mobile games to launch between now and April 2017.
