In more Pokemon GO news, Niantic CEO John Hanke did an interview with Spain’s El Periodico, Hanke expanded on yesterday’s news regarding the three major updates that are slated for 2017. Unlike yesterday’s announcement which didn’t have much more in the way of detail about the future plans of Pokemon GO, the interview ended up with a fair amount of details.
While we are covering GDC 2017, Mobile World Congress 2017 in currently underway at the same time over in Barcelona, and for some reason Niantic Labs is there talking about future plans of Pokemon GO. These plans include three, already planned, big updates.
Just over 80 new 2nd generation Pokemon, along with some other goodies, were datamined out of the game files once again and previewed to the public yesterday. However, just after news of that broke out, Niantic Labs pushed out an update making those 80 new Pokemon (from the Johto region) available for players.
There are only a few countries out in the world that do not have access to Pokemon GO, along with other Augmented Reality games, and one of those happens to be China. While most other countries don’t have it because of things like translations and so on, China doesn’t have Pokemon GO, and won’t have it, until the government there finished evaluating the ‘risks’ it may pose.
Niantic Labs has announced today the availability of holiday-themed item packs which will be available for a limited time only for Pokemon GO players, which makes sense since it is themed around the holidays. These ‘packs’, which come in the form of presents, are visible in the IAP area of the game and come in three different sizes: Special, Great, and Ultra Boxes.
Pokémon Trainers rejoice! Catching ‘em all has just become more exciting with the addition of a number of Generation II Pokémon, first seen in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Silver, to Pokémon GO. As revealed by developer Niantic, starting today at 10 A.M. PST players can visit and spin PokéStops to acquire eggs which later might hatch a Togepi, Pichu, or “select other Pokemon”. The identities of the “select” Pokémon are unknown as of yet. These new entries are the first in a wave of new Pokémon arriving over the coming months.

Another day, another Pokemon GO piece of news, or in this case, some news along with a game update. Niantic Labs has pushed out a new update that brings with it a few helpful new features for trainers to use. However, inside the game’s code, more goodies have been found, but this time it looks to be about holiday costumes coming to the game in another update before Christmas.
The other news regarding Pokemon GO yesterday, about the 100 new 2nd generation Pokemon making their appearance on December 8th, seems to have either been off or has changed. The chances are, since this will arrive as an update, that it is the latter of the two options and Niantic has decided to change when they are arriving because of the leaked Starbucks document.
Yesterday we reported that Sprint was teaming up with Niantic Labs for a press event for this morning regarding Pokemon GO. Considering each company’s Chief Executive (Sprint’s Chief Executive, Marcelo Claure, and Niantic’s Chief Executive, John Hanke) was making an appearance, we figured this would be a rather large announcement. So was it? Well kind of.
