Unity3D had a fairly large booth at GDC 2011 and among all the goodies they were showing off was their new set of tools dedicated to Android game development using Unity3D. There is a serious lack of any sort of TCG games for Android but it looks like we will be getting a pretty slick looking one very soon. For those of you who are not familiar with what a TCG is, it stands for Trading Card Games such as Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh. Shadow Era is a TCG heading to Android and was developed using Unity3D.
Luckily for all our readers we keep getting more and more news regarding the Xperia Play and judging by how it is going so far, this little Android gaming device is going to have some serious backing in the gaming department. With over 50 games slated for release at launch time, there is going to be quite the selection to choose from.
Currently sporting 9 million downloads to-date on iOS, the Chop Chop series of games developed by Gamerizon will be making their way to Android this quarter. That will be a total of six games making their way onto the Android Market very soon and of course, with a name like Chop Chop, there will at least one ninja game.

Unity3D has been focusing a lot on being completely cross-platform compatible and as of late, a lot more mobile focused especially with their upcoming 3.2 update and having been Android compatible from the beginning. This little display is a prime example if what we could see popping up in cafes in the future at the rate things are going.
When it comes to game engines, Unity3D is right up there among the top with the likes of Unreal Engine 3 and Shive3D. The upcoming update to the recently released Unity3D ver.3 will including a lot of optimizaition geared towards mobile graphics for both iOS and Android. However, we only care about the Android end of things.
Qualcomm has announced the release of it’s beta software for augmented reality development regarding Android games as well as applications. Regarding game development, the new AR extension for Unity 3D will help developers create games with augmented reality features much more quickly when used in conjunction with their other tools.
This is literally one of the crazier projects I’ve come across in a long time in gaming. Question: What do you get when you combine Flash Player, Unity3D, Google Maps? A browser based wicked looking Flash game that uses real world maps/locations. Throw an Android phone into the mix and now you have portable F1 3D racing in any real city.
Unity3D continues to make news it seems and this week is no exception. In the midst of giving away 500 free Nexus One phone to the first 500 pre-sale orders of Unity Pro for Android, another announcement was made today regarding even more free phones. Unity3D is really pushing their support of Android but to get these phones you have to be a school.
DiCaprio’s new movie Inception is on it’s way to theaters (July 16th if you were curious) and with that a new game based on the movie is available for your phone. Built with Unity3D, Inception Mind Game offers up 3D action and strategy all rolled into one title. There is one catch though, it is exclusively for Droid and Droid Incredible phones (via Verizon). Everyone else is out of luck.
