Playing OnLive games on a tablet while using an Android phone as a controller with DroidMote

So far we have talked about playing Shadowgun using the DroidMote apps in conjunction with a tablet and phone, then the DroidMote getting Xperia Play support. Now this versitile little application can let you play OnLive games on an Android tablet while using your Android phone as a game controller.

Unlike the previous couple of articles though, this isn’t so much of a guide or How To type of article since the basics are pretty much the same for each example. You install the server portion of DroidMote onto the device you wish to control, in this example an Asus Transformer, and the client portion of the app on the device you want to use as a game controller such as your Android phone. After that you just map your keys and you are off to some gaming goodness.

In this new example we have an Android phone being used as a controller to play OnLive games. While we haven’t personally tested this out on game that are available that do not have touch controls just yet but as you can see in the video above that you can play all the games available for Android using your phone as a controller. Darksiders is a great game, which you see in this video, and does come with touch controls but the gameplay looks a bit better having a separate device for a controller.

As more games get touch screen controls, you should be able to play all of them in this fashion using your phone as a game pad. If any of you feel adventurous, give it a whirl and see if it will work for games that don’t have touch screen controls just yet. If it does then this is even more of a win then we previously had thought. Please note: to install the server portion of DroidMote, the controlled device must be rooted.

Thanks to videomap for the heads up!
