GREE and Ubisoft bringing some real Assassin’s Creed love to mobile with Utopia

So far the only real Assassin’s Creed love Android has gotten is in the form of some mildly decent Java port from Gameloft. Well that is about to change as GREE, along with Ubisoft, have officially announced a new addition to the series that will be coming to mobile called Assassin’s Creed Utopia. Something they have hinted at over the past month or so.

If you are getting kind of tired seeing GREE’s name in the headlines well you will probably not be escaping that anytime soon. With the full worldwide release, official release that is and not the current beta one, there will be plenty of news relating to GREE in the near future. This will be mostly about the titles which will be coming with GREE’s official full launch of their social gaming platform worldwide later this year. Now you can chalk another one up on the list of 60+ that will arrive when the official release happens.

So what will Assassin’s Creed Utopia be in regards to the overall series and the storyline? Ubisoft is staying pretty quite about the whole thing but producer Andreane Meunier did give out a few gems of information about this game. For starters, fans of the series will get “a true Assassin’s Creed experience” and that the game will have you “building your own Assassin’s Creed utopian colonial city”. Interesting concept instead of the roof jumping bad guy killing usual theme.

Other details known is that this will take place in the colonial era near the end of the 16th century when immigrants came to the New World to form their ‘utopia’. Also that the narrative will be better than previous mobile Assassin’s Creed games.

Since this will be on the GREE platform, there will be social features added into the mix as well. However, Meunier is stressing that this will not take away from the game’s more hardcore origins:

“We’re working together to make a unique experience on mobile that’s not going to be just ‘casual’, but that can also be related to more ‘hardcore’ brands…what we’ve been looking at is to have a true Assassin’s Creed experience, to make sure the fans and those that know and love the brand really recognise the Assassin’s Creed touch.”

No official release date has been announced for Assassin’s Creed Utopia although we can speculate that it will be one of the featured titles for when the GREE social gaming platform officially launches globally.
