Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.8.0 update to bring Walls, Redstone, Minecarts, Pumpkins and more

It has been awhile since we got to talk about a major update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition since the past few updates have been minor version increases, mostly dealing with bug fixes pertaining to Minecraft Pocket Realms. Well now we finally get to talk about the next major update which will be version 0.8.0 and basically confirms that Redstone is on the way to the game very soon.

The Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.8.0 will come with plenty of new goodies for people to enjoy with one of the main ones being the addition of Redstone that can be mined. This is just the addition of the blocks that can be mined an there has been no confirmation that the 0.8.0 update will actually have Redstone usable. This will more than likely arrive in the 0.9.0 update at the earliest but at least you can start collecting a bunch of it ahead of time.

One of the first uses for Redstone will also be arriving in the 0.8.0 update, at least in its more basic form. Rails and Minecarts will be included in the game and craftable when the 0.8.0 update lands. Powered rails will most likely make their appearance in the 0.9.0 which is when we predict that Redstone will be usable.

Other features and bug fixes include:

– 3D Clouds
– Sideways logs
– Walls
– Sponges (Creative only for 0.8.0, Survival in future update)
– Birch, Jungle, and Spruce Planks and Stairs
– Pumpkins and Pumpkin Pie
– Carrots and Potatoes
– Iron Bars
– Carpet – Water Flowing Downward on Farmland (Bug fix)
– Fire Doesn’t Ignite TNT (Bug fix)

Of course this list could change before the update is released with the addition of more goodies or with some of these features being delayed until 0.9.0. As it stands right now though, this is pretty much what we can expect for 0.8.0. As for when the update is supposed to arrive, Johan has mentioned that Mojang is looking ata mid-November release time, so roughly after the next 3 1/2 to 4 weeks.

Side Note: To give you an idea of how awesome 0.9.0 will be, one of the possible features Johan mentioned is Caves finally.
