The addictive fluttering Flappy Bird could be returning to mobile devices after all

It’s been an interesting few months since Flappy Bird’s release onto Android and iOS before being taken down from the developer of the game, Dong Nguyen. Citing everything from the game ruining his life to being too addictive, Nguyen pulled the game down. Subsequently a massive storm of clones ended up being released onto both platforms afterwards. I’m sure the game making $50,000/day had nothing to do with that at all.

Nguyen said he would never bring back the game and yet here we are talking about exactly that. It isn’t a definite thing just yet but speaking to Rolling Stone, Nguyen said that it is possible. The main reason for the game not being re-released was due to it being too addictive. Apparently Nguyen even kept emails from people who basically attacked him for “distracting the children of the world” as well as hearing about people breaking their phones and losing their jobs. We won’t get into how absolutely ridiculous all of that is in this article.

At first I thought they were just joking, but I realize they really hurt themselves. – Dong Nguyen

If you downloaded the game when it was originally released, you have still been able to play it and Nguyen is still making a grip of money from it. With the plethora of clones out there, pulling Flappy Bird from both marketplaces has done little in the way of making that type of game less of an “addiction”. So Nguyen is considering bringing the game back at some point, he’s just not sure when that will be.
