TellTale Games’ next series will be based on… Minecraft? Welcome to Minecraft Story Mode.

TellTale Games hasĀ  been doing a stellar job bringing some big franchises to the gaming world as adventure games and today the has announced what the next one will be and it is a pretty big surprising. TellTale Games will be partnering up with Mojang to bring us Minecraft Story Mode.

Honestly Minecraft does make sense to have an episodic adventure series made out of it considering the openness of the game in pretty much every aspect. Since you can do pretty much whatever you want in Minecraft, this makes it a perfect blank canvas for an adventure series of games. Hell people have been doing that already with the PC version of Minecraft, making up their own storylines or RPG themed servers. There are even mods for Minecraft dedicated to this sort of thing.

The interesting thing about this is that all of TellTale Games’ previous releases have all been based off of TV Shows or other games, like Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, that actually have full storylines to work off of. Minecraft literally has no storyline to it at all. So how this is going to work out remains to be seen but it does sound really interesting.

Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices. Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation. – TellTale Games’ description of Minecraft Story Mode

As for when we can expect to see Minecraft Story Mode being released, right now there is just a general 2015 time frame. The first episode will be released on PC, Max, iOS and Android. We will post additional details about this game once they are released.
