Apple Vs Epic Court Documents Reveal a Second Rocket League Mobile Game in the Works

A few weeks ago Epic announced Rocket League Sideswipe, seemingly bringing to an end several months of fevered speculation about a possible mobile port of the Psynonix’s popular multiplayer car soccer game.

Except it didn’t. The speculation is still ongoing, reignited by court documents filed by Epic in its court case against Apple (for pulling Fortnite from the App Store, remember?)

The document contains a page for Rocket League “2D”, a version of the game “rebult for touch controls”. That appears to be the game that became Rocket League Sideswipe.

But there’s another slide, featuring details on a game with the working title Rocket League “Next”. This appears to be a next gen reboot of the original game that will be available on all platforms, “including mobile”.

What’s more, Rocket League “Next” will apparently come to mobile first, with a alpha and beta test set to take place, “long before it’s released on other platforms”.

As for when, the slide (viewable on resetera) is cut off at the line where the release date is revealed, but it looks very much like “Est: Q2 2021 for Mobile Beta”, which means any time in the next seven weeks or so.
