Dig Blood Moon Guide
What Is A Blood Moon?
The Blood Moon is an event introduced in the… well, the Blood Moon update. It currently happens every 4 hours and lasts for 20 minutes. It’s easy to recognize when it’s happening, as everything becomes bathed in sinister red light.
Effects Of The Blood Moon
Aside from making everything look creepy, there are several different things that happen during Blood Moon events that you won’t find at other times.
Special Mutations
Anything you dig up during the Blood Moon has a 20% chance to get the Clawed mutation, which gives a 1.5x sale value boost.
The Dire Claws
There’s a small chance to dig up the Dire Claws charm when you dig anywhere during a Blood Moon. The Dire Claws give you a formidable stat boost.
The Blood Moon Items
The Blood Moon has its own special Journal, with a set of items you need to collect. These are only available from Blood Moon Chests. These drop from the Blood Moon boss, though you can also buy them from the Skeleton Merchant.
Skeleton Merchant
This guy appears in Fox Town under the Blood Moon. He’ll sell you a Blood Moon Chest for $700 each.
Dire Wolf Boss
The Dire Wolf Boss spawns at Cinder Cavern once during a Blood Moon, just after the event starts. Helping to defeat it means various possible treasures, including an exclusive shovel, the Fanged Shovel, or Blood Moon Chests.
