Dig Boss Damage Build

Beginning with your main tool of operations, I recommend the Beast Slayer Shovel. This Shovel appears infrequently in the Travelling Merchant shop for $400,000. Of all Shovels currently in Dig, this one has the highest Boss Damage, totalling 100 DMG without modifications.

But let’s take it further and enchant it with the Sundering Enchantment, which increases boss damage by +20%. This brings the Beast Slayer Shovel’s total damage to 120!

Charms

If you reach level 25, you unlock all three Charm slots. So, let’s fill these with damage enhancers!

  • Spiky Barrel
    • Obtainment: Travelling Merchant ($30,000)
    • Pip 1: +1% to +4% Boss DMG
    • Pip 2: +1% to +4% Boss DMG
    • Pip 3: +1% to +4% Boss DMG
    • Ability: Deflect 50% of any taken damage back onto the boss.
  • Boss Apparatus
    • Obtainment: Travelling Merchant ($18,000)
    • Pip 1: +2% to +9% Boss DMG
    • Pip 2: +2% to +9% Boss DMG
    • Pip 3: +2% to +9% Boss DMG
    • Ability: None
  • Radioactive Horns
    • Obtainment: Molten Monstrosity (10% drop chance)
    • Pip 1: +12% to +20% Boss DMG
    • Pip 2: +3% to +10% Endurance
    • Pip 3: None
    • Ability: Plasma and Petrified items can become Radioactive.

Since the Radioactive Horns are a boss drop, I recommend the Ninja Headband from Alona Jungle as an alternative.

Buff Items

Finally, some items apply temporary enhancements to increase your overall Boss Damage. This includes:

  • Blueberry Cupcake
    • Obtainment: Tom’s Bakery ($350)
    • Use: +10 Boss Damage for 4 minutes
  • Monarch Totem
    • Obtainment: Every 5th Combat Guild Quest completion
    • Use: +25% Boss DMG for 30 minutes

Why You Need a Boss Build

Fighting bosses requires digging, but unlike when looting, the only shovel stat which matters is the Boss DMG. This means that just because a shovel is overall better than another for the base game, it isn’t stronger during boss fights.

An example of this is the Draconic Shovel, which has 50 Boss DMG, whereas the lesser Venomous Shovel deals 75 Boss DMG. Shovels dropped by Bosses tend to always deal more damage than other shovels in their tier.

Alongside your main tool, you can enhance your damage output with charms, totems, and more. Dealing more damage and contributing to the fight secures your chance at looting the boss when it falls. Plus, with some bosses like the Molten Monstrosity having 350,000 HP, you’ll need all the strength you can get!
