Prospecting experienced some unusual downtime yesterday, with players constantly forced to refresh before all servers went temporarily offline. Find out what happened to Prospecting in this article, which details the outage reasons and how it affected its players.

What Happened to Prospecting

Sometime midday yesterday, Prospecting servers became exceptionally buggy. Across all servers, players would routinely forcefully relog, and their data from the previous few minutes between relogging disappeared.

Over in the Prospecting Discord Server, Admin Charlotte said: “@everyone DO NOT JOIN THE GAME! THERE IS CURRENTLY AN ISSUE OCCURRING. STAY OUT OF THE GAME TO BE SAFE.

In short, Prospecting was hacked. This allegedly happened due to the DEVs’ use of vulnerable free models within the game, allowing hackers backdoor access via the game scripts.

Is Your Account and Data Safe?

Your account data remains safe. The hackers didn’t seem to gain access to any individual’s accounts. This didn’t seem to be their goal in the first place, fortunately.

Game data, however, is another story. Due to the constantly forced relogging during the hack, players lost their game data during this time. This affected players differently depending on their in-game progression. Some have reported up to 8 hours of rolled back data, though the exact timeframe isn’t solidified.

Will This Disrupt The Volcano Update?

Fortunately, everything seems resolved now, and the Volcano Update will continue ahead tomorrow, Saturday the 26th.

After a few hours of being locked to the public yesterday, the Prospecting team resolved the issue with only minor repercussions, including data rollbacks to the players who were online during the hack and resets.

To apologise for the data rollbacks and help players out, the DEVs released a free code ‘sorrytwo‘, rewarding players with cash and multipliers.
