Astrune Academy’s Witch-Themed JRPG is Kemco’s Most Interesting Release in Some Time

A class scene in Astrune Academy.

Kemco is easily the most prolific JRPG creator of all time. It feels like a new entry pops up on a near-monthly basis, and that’s probably because they pretty much do.

That would be fine if each new entry offered something other than a reskin of its previous releases. As it is, despite how much I love the genre, I can’t bring myself to play a Kemco game because I feel like I’ve seen it all before.

Astrune Academy Looks Set to Shake Up the Kemco Formula

That is, until Astrune Academy. This new entry takes place in a magic school, and sees you participate in classes to develop your set of spells. These are known as Almacation, and see you casting elemental spells to exploit weaknesses, and summoning “demon friends.”

In terms of gameplay, you spend half the time in school, where you complete assignments, purchase necessary items in the school shop, and interact with your professors and fellow classmates. There are also magical vending machines, but who knows what they do.

The rest of the time you explore a series of mysterious ruins. Here you will encounter creatures that put your magic skills to the test. Defeat them in battle, level up, and loot gear that will help increase your power.

Can I Still Wield a Gigantic Sword?

While magic is a large component of battles, you can still wield swords and various other melee weapons. If you ever dreamed of becoming a battlemage, Astrune Academy gives you your chance.

And, if you’re sick of the free-to-play gacha gaming craze, remember that Kemco games are premium. For a single fee you can explore Astrune Academy at your leisure, free from adds and microtransactions. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

So go ahead and grab Astrune Academy right now on Google Play. Or, if you fancy trying something new, check out our best new Android games this week feature. We update this weekly with the best new games so you always have something new to play.
