Best New Android Games and Sales: Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Dead Cells, and More

Dead Cells is one of the best Android action games.

This has been a good week for bargain hunters. As we arrive at the end of summer developers and publishers seem to be more eager than ever to crank down the prices of their games, with Dead Cells, Meteorfall: Journeys, and Hidden Folks among the absolute classic going cheap right now.

It’s been more of a mixed bag in terms of new releases, however. We’re very glad to see Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad on the Google Play Store at long last, but Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has had a less than stellar launch, with users complaining of bugs and shoddy multiplayer.

New Games

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is the latest addition to Square Enix’s bulging library of classic ports on the Google Play Store. It started its journey on GameCube, where it was well-received. Unfortunately the Android version has some gremlins, and consequently mixed reviews.

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad

Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad is a much-awaited tactical RPG featuring 5v5 battles with a whole host of Ubisoft badasses, including Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, Caviera from Rainbow Six Siege, and El Sueno from Ghost Recon. It’s free-to-play, and has already racked up an impressive 30,000 reviews on Google Play.

Sales

Hidden Folks

Regular readers will recall that Hidden Folks recently shot up in price, while at the same time integrating all of its existing and future DLC. It was a good deal, and now it’s an even better deal since Hidden Folks is currently just $2.99, down from $4.99. That’s a bargain price for this beautiful monochrome hidden object gem.

Meteorfall: Journeys

Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale has just gone live on iOS, but not on Android. Fortunately, we’ve got a consolation prize in the form of a massive price cut for predecessor Meteorfall: Journeys. You can pick up this funny, charming, and endlessly playing roguelike card battler right now for just 99c.

Her Story

Her Story, the multiple Bafta-winning FMV classic from Sam Barlow, is currently going for a song, costing just 99c instead of its customary, still ludicrously cheap, $4.99. If you haven’t played it already, this is your chance to experience the innovative puzzle classic that everybody was talking about in 2015.

Dead Cells

We happen to know that published Playdigious is planning an end of summer sale in the coming weeks, but Dead Cells seems to have broken from the pack and cut its price early. Motion Twin’s hugely acclaimed “roguevania” is available for just $4.49. That’s half price.

Zenge, Scalak, and OXXO

Hamster on Coke isn’t the best-known developer in the universe, but it has a splendid line in gorgeous, ingeniously constructed puzzlers. And all three of them are currently on sale for 99p each.
