Bloomtown: A Different Story has now landed on mobile in its 1.0 version. It’s a social, narrative JRPG with turn-based combat and monster taming. Set in a seemingly pleasant 1960s Americana world, the game brings a JRPG-style pixel art.
With a slice-of-life exploration
The game’s tone swings between wholesome Americana and creeping dread. Set in the early 1960s, the story follows Emily and her younger brother Chester.
They arrive in Bloomtown for a seemingly peaceful summer at their grandfather’s house. But the town’s quiet charm doesn’t last long. Children begin vanishing, while nightmares get a little too vivid.
On the surface, Bloomtown seems like a postcard-perfect community. There’s a cinema, grocery stores, parks, and a library. But the picture-perfect backdrop hides another reality entirely.
It has a demon-infested world known as the Underside, where fears and vices of the townspeople take on grotesque physical forms. This is just giving me a solid Stranger Things vibe!
As Emily, you dig into the mystery behind the disappearances. You team up with friends and confront the horrors lurking just beyond the veil. Take a peek at the game below.
What’s the combat like in Bloomtown: A Different Story?
Combat plays out through a turn-based tactical system that focuses on teamwork. You’ll face massive dungeon bosses and chaotic encounters with creatures from the Underside.
You can summon inner demons and even capture weakened foes during battles. The captured creatures become part of your team. There’s a fusion system, which lets you experiment with a range of synergies to create custom setups.
In between dungeons and eerie discoveries, Emily can spend her time living a fairly regular summer. She can train at the gym, earn money by working shifts at the grocery store, make friends, or just unwind in a garden.
