EAi will be acquiring Firemint, developers of Real Racing and Flight Control.

EAi has been sniffing around for another purchase to add to their mobile line-up of acquisitions to strengthen their mobile gaming efforts. First is was the purchase of Chillingo last year, then recently Mobile Post Production Inc. Now they have let it be known that they will be acquiring Firemint and adding their skills to theirs.

Firemint has developed a couple of smash hit games called Flight Control and Real Racing. The Real Racing series of games has yet to come to Android and a lot of Android gamers who enjoy racing games have been wanting this to make the jump to our platform. Now that wish may come true.

Mobile Post Production Inc, which EAi also owns, is a company that specializes in porting mobile games to other platforms. Starting to see the connection yet? With the acquisition of Firemint, all the tools are in place now for Real Racing to possibly make the jump to Android now.

“The added technical expertise of MPP, combined with the creative talent of Firemint and our EAi studio teams, fuels EA’s leadership in delivering top selling, high quality games across mobile phones and smartphones, tablets and future digital interactive entertainment platforms.” – Executive VP and general manager of EA Interactive Barry Cottle.

Whenever a company talks about bringing games to smartphones and tablets, generally Android is in there. If they talk about bringing games to iOS they usually state iOS specifically. Between all the acquisitions and the team that EAi is forming, not only is the chance high that Real Racing will make it to Android, we could see other games from other iOS-only developers making the leap if EAi continues their spending spree.

So who is looking forward to having Real Racing available on Android finally?
