Hidden Folks is this week’s free game on the Epic Games Mobile Store. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can play it completely free until August 21st, 2025. The giveaway is available worldwide for Android users.
Originally released in February 2017 for mobile, Linux, macOS, and Windows, Hidden Folks quickly became a hit in the hidden object games genre. It was because its puzzles go beyond simple picture hunts.
Developed by Adriaan de Jongh and Sylvain Tegroeg, the game has a wimmelbilderbuch-inspired approach (Wimmelbilderbuch or wimmelbook is a large-format, wordless hidden picture book). Its hand-drawn art gives each location the appearance of a moving picture book.
The game features 32 distinctive areas, all of which were drawn by hand. And it’s all in a monochromatic ink style. Each area has a different theme, including quiet forests with wildlife, crowded campsites and more.
You can interact with more than 500 elements in every scene. Tap on a crocodile and it will snap its jaws open. Poke at bushes and you will discover birds, small campers or an irritated snake.
Apart from its visuals, the game’s sound design has been equally praised. IT features more than 2,000 mouth-made sound effects. Every flap, rustle, crunch and roar is the work of Adriaan de Jongh himself.
