Square Enix has finally decided to appease the fans of their Final Fantasy Tactics games by releasing Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, a game that was announced for Android back in 2013. Since the game’s original announcement back then, no word has come out of Square Enix regarding the whereabouts of this game. Whatever the reasons are for it taking so long, it is finally here.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, or TWofL for short, was the franchises first tactical-style RPG release which came out back in 1997. If you’re not familiar with tactical RPGs, the gameplay is a little different from your standard RPG. The layout of the playing area is more like a board game and your characters are the pieces. Each turn you move your characters and/or launch an attack on an enemy. The the enemy does the same, and this continues on till one side is defeated. This type of gameplay usually only happens during combat, although some games have the turn-based system for the entire game.

This version of the game has all of the most recent additions to it over the older reiterations. This means that all the new cut-scenes (which can now be skipped if you don’t want to watch them), scenarios and Jobs are in this release. The controls have also been revamped and now include multi-touch support for touchscreen controls including pinch zooming and sliding gestures on screens like the world map. Overall, the loading times for Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions have also been improved, cutting down on how long it takes to load new scenes and combat.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is available on Google Play after a 2 year wait. If you haven’t given up on getting this game, you can pick up a copy for $13.99.
