Published by Untold Tales and developed by Kautki Cave, Flame Keeper is a new roguelite on Android. First announced in December 2022, the game has been out on PC since June 2024. It landed on Steam in early access in December 2023.
Trade your own lifeforce to push forward
Flame Keeper stars Ignis, a fiery piece of coal on a mission to restore the Eternal Flame across the crumbling world of Orbis. Ignis is well-trained in the art of combat, but the energy needed to recharge each Fire Camp is also his health. So, while Ignis is trying to bring light back to the world, he’s slowly burning himself away.
Flame Keeper has punch combos, flame dashes, wide stomps, finishers that smash multiple foes and more. Stamina is your constant companion and your biggest limitation. If you go in swinging without managing it properly, you’ll quickly find yourself surrounded and defenseless.
Each biome gets tougher, and enemies become more varied, so you have to keep adapting. The Bestiary helps by gradually revealing enemy strengths and weaknesses, though you’ll still end up learning some lessons the hard way.
Progression revolves around tweaking Ignis through skills and passive abilities. You collect seeds from enemies to learn new moves and complete specific tasks to earn runes. It opens up tons of build possibilities.
Vulpis Village, which greets you at the beginning of each stage, is one of the more unique elements of the game. It’s a hub, and it changes based on your progress. It also lets you upgrade abilities and structures using resources you’ve gathered.
Will You Be the Flame Keeper?
Flame Keeper presents an original concept with solid core mechanics. It’s up for grabs on the Google Play Store for $4.99. Right now, Untold Tales has a launch discount going on, which lets you nab the game for $3.49.
