Being shown off during Anime Expo (which is set for early July), gumi Inc will release their game Phantom of the Kill; currently, the game is released only in Japan, where it has garnered over 1.5 million downloads . In Phantom, players will oversee a squad of assassin’s who need to recover their lost memories.
Phantom of the Kill’s storyline revolves around a group of assassins on a quest to recover their lost memories in a dangerous fantasy world. Interestingly enough, globally renowned talent Mamoru Oshii (director of “Ghost in the Shell”) was the Editorial Supervisor for the opening movie. The game uses turn-based strategy, what they call “one thumb controls”, and features both magic and technology blended together. Rounding everything off is a large amount of playable classes, weapons to customize them with, and lots of challenges to use them on.
According to the developers, gumi will have a booth at the Anime Expo, and “Expo attendees will have the chance to engage directly with gumi developers and receive in-game prizes – exclusive to Anime Expo – by visiting gumi’s booth, #1801 in the Exhibit Hall, from July 2-5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.” Once more info is available, such as pricing, we’ll update you.
