It has been a couple of weeks since we posted our last hidden gem and today we have a great little asteroid shooter called Alpha Wave by Hardline Studios. This game is a solid, fun shooter where you are in control of a little defense ship/turret with the job of protecting your planet.
The controls are as simple as it gets. Just tap and hold your finger on the screen and slide it left to right. You will automatically beginning shooting straight up so all you have to do is start blasting the asteroids as they rain down onto you. Some are bigger than others and when destroyed split into smaller pieces you have to deal with. There are also different types of asteroids in your way.
The graphics, however, are quite nice and polished. The asteroids actually look like asteroids with craters and crack in them. They rotate as they fall giving them a great 3D look to them. You ship is detailed and your shots are clearly visible when shooting. There are also enemies that show up, attacking you while you try to deal with all the asteroids. Luckily you have a nice variety of weapons at your disposal and one big nuke as well.
Alpha Wave is a survival type of game so as you progress through the games, passing each wave, it will get increasingly difficult until finally you run out of shields and are dead. There are stats as well that keeps track of the games you play with your best, worst and latest scores. There are also three difficulty levels to choose from should you want an extra challenge.
This game comes in two flavors on the market, a free demo to try out as well as a full version for $0.99. So if you are up for a great little arcade asteroid shooter, you may want to check this one out. You can see the game in action in the video below. On a side note, the developer knows about the issues some ICS devices are having and they are trying to sort it out.
