Is Honkai Impact Getting A New Engine?

The featured image for our Honkai Impact new engine article, featuring a plethora of characters from the game gathered in the sky.

On March 4, Bilibili held a developer livestream, teasing and showcasing a variety of new content coming to the game. Toward the end of the livestream, the studio played some mysterious new gameplay. The short video featured the character Susannah exploring a part of the Honkai Impact map.

The footage didn’t include any commentary, and the developer didn’t give an explanation for it, either. This has lead many fans to believe that Bilibili is teasing a new engine overhaul coming to Honkai Impact in the future. For now, though, that’s just speculation.

What The Footage Might Be

@MarisaHonkai, shared the isolated footage on YouTube, and speculation has erupted in the comments section.

MarisaHonkai has written in the comments “As mentioned at the beginning of the video, no one really knows what this is. Either it’s an actual engine update, a visual update etc.”

One user, @user-rd4qh1zh5u, writes “looks like a test stage”.

Another user, @Shikasu_, speculated the footage could be a demo for a future console release, writing “console release for Honkai.” As the studio hasn’t put forward anything to deny the user’s hopes, it’s something we can’t rule out.

Contrasting previous ideas, @kimleroyunda2636 writes “I dont think its a new engine but could be a RTX option incoming to game probably”.

We should emphasise that this is all purely speculation, and we encourage that you take these ideas with a pinch of salt.

What Is Honkai Impact 3rd?

Honkai Impact is a hugely popular and successful action gacha RPG for a range of platforms, including Android. The game is heading for it’s seventh anniversary, as miHoYo released the game way back in 2016. Many fans believe the game is the spiritual successor to Houkai Gakuen 2, as Honkai Impact continues the stories of the characters from that game.

You can download Honkai Impact 3rd from Google Play. If you’re worried about being six years too late to the game, then don’t worry – the game gives you 100 free pulls to help you get started!
