Suikoden is back. Well, kind of. Konami and MYTHRIL just announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS. It’s going to be free to play once it’s out. They haven’t given any release date yet, but it will probably be out later this year.

If you don’t know, Suikoden has been around since 1995. It’s a series of RPGs developed and published by Konami and created by Yoshitaka Murayama. They were loosely based on the classical Chinese novel Water Margin and called Suikoden in Japanese.

The series brings a world filled with political intrigue, True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. The series has had 11 entries, including spin-offs, and the last one was released in 2012. Now, instead of a continuation or a full-fledged revival, Konami is giving us a mobile game, Suikoden STAR LEAP.

What’s in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces an entirely new cast of characters but Konami is sticking to the series’ tradition of gathering 108 heroes. The game features pixel art to keep the classic Suikoden feel. Catch a glimpse right below.

The story revolves around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that apparently shaped the world. The protagonist is the son of the village chief, Hou, who just had his first successful hunt. But then disaster strikes, the village gets attacked and everything changes.

So, Hou sets out on a journey with Hisui, Shirin and Shapur to restore peace. Hisui is Hou’s servant with a mysterious emotional suppression, Shirin is his childhood friend with a strong sense of justice and Shapur is a former general turned butler.

Although not the whole community is sure about the new game. Because Suikoden fans have been waiting forever for a proper continuation, and instead, Konami is dropping STAR LEAP, a gacha game.

We’ll able to tell more once the game actually drops. Until then, check out the official website for their latest updates.
