Avex Pictures just announced a new mobile game based on Made in Abyss. After taking people deep into the Abyss through manga, anime, and a 3D action RPG, the story is now coming to mobile (as a game) for the first time.
What’s the Scoop?
The new mobile game is titled Made in Abyss: A Difficult and Mysterious Journey. It was revealed alongside the launch of the title’s official X account, which will presumably drop updates as the game gets closer to release.
For now, though, there’s not much info on what the game will actually be like, other than that it’s going to be a casual mobile title. It’s coming to Android and iOS, but only for Japan at the moment. There’s no word yet on any global rollout.
Dived into the Abyss Yet?
Made in Abyss started out in 2012 as a manga by Akihito Tsukushi, serialized on Web Comic Gamma. It follows Riko, a young orphan living in the town of Orth. The town surrounds a massive vertical hole in the earth known only as the Abyss.
The Abyss is full of ancient tech, strange organisms, and a haunting mystery that it swallows people whole. Riko dreams of following in the footsteps of her mother, Lyza, a legendary White Whistle Cave Raider who disappeared in the Abyss.
Along the way, Riko meets Reg, a half-robot boy with no memory of his past. The two begin their journey downward into the Abyss, knowing full well they may never return.
The manga was adapted into an anime in 2017. A sequel film, Dawn of the Deep Soul, came out in Japan in 2020. Also, in 2022, Chime Corporation developed a console and PC RPG title, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.
