MicroMacro: Downtown Detective is a new game by Soft Boiled Games on Android. It’s actually an adaptation of the award-winning board game series ‘MicroMacro: Crime City.’ The digital version turns the co-op board game into a solo adventure.
Get to work, detective!
MicroMacro: Downtown Detective mixes classic wimmelbild (busy pictures teeming with many people, animals and objects) with a detective story. The digital version comes with a new city map and a new set of cases.
But don’t confuse it to be a usual hidden object game. You piece together robberies, murders, and all sorts of shady business happening across a giant cartoon city.
The interesting twist is that the city map never changes, but the way you look at it does. Characters reappear across different moments in time, reconstructing their day until the truth finally clicks.
You’ll even come across celebrity scandals. For instance, uncovering why rockstar Axl Otl had to die or smaller but still messy crimes like burglary sprees.
Visually, the game has a cartoonish art style, and you’ll see a lot of monochrome with a bit of red here and there. With a mix of cosy and creepy, its cute cartoon look softens the darker stories underneath. On that note, catch a glimpse of the game right here.
MicroMacro: Downtown Detective has cosy gameplay and clever storylines
You can begin the game with three free cases. One case might have you chasing down a notorious pickpocket named Polly through a busy market. While another asks you to figure out how a violinist ended up dead in an alley.
You can unlock the full version for $5.99, which adds 22 extra cases that bring tons of variety. In case you’ve played any of the board games in the MicroMacro series, you can expect a similar fun experience. So, check it out on the Google Play Store.
