Sega Will Announce A New Mobile Game On Friday, Rumoured To Be A Yoko Taro Project

Gaming giant Sega is gearing up for a big announcement in the next few days, with the publisher set to release details on a huge new mobile game release on February 10. The showcase will take place at 20:00 JST on the SEGA Youtube channel.

The Hype Is Real

Sega is firing up the hype machine big style, with a teaser trailer that reveals nothing, but makes its lofty ambitions for the new title pretty clear.

The teaser doesn’t hold back on the spectacle. It shows a phone corrupting and becoming covered in Sega logos, before this begins to spread worldwide. The skylines of Tokyo, New York, Paris, and Taipei turn blue with Sega logos.

It’s a fascinating and slightly threatening trailer, though of all companies we’d thought would take over the world, Sega would probably be lower on the list.

The teaser is big on spectacle, but light on details, however, some game sleuths think they’ve cracked the mystery already.

A Yoko Taro Project?

According to a report from Gematsu, Sega has already inadvertently given the game away – literally. In their report, the Japan-focused gaming news site claims that an accidental release of promotional material has revealed more about the project than intended.

Gematsu indicates that the title is 404 GAME RE:SET. A Twitter account does exist by that name with protected tweets.

More excitingly, if true, it’s reported to be a game from the mind of Yoko Taro, the eccentric, mask-wearing genius behind the NieR and Drakengard series.

Anyone who has spent long gaming will know Taro for having games that do not fit into the traditional mold in terms of story and atmosphere. They’re weird, distinct, and the stories have more twists and turns than a NieR: Automata mission pathway.

If this apparent leak is accurate, then this is a lot to be excited about. We can’t imagine anything from the mind of Yoko Taro coming out generic or dull.

All references to the material Gematsu cited has gone, so we can’t confirm any of the information in the article. You’ll have to wait until the stream drops to see if the info bears out. We’ll definitely be there to get the latest as it happens!
