KEMCO has released a new roguelite on Android today. It’s called Novel Rogue which is a card deck-building fantasy JRPG with pixel art. The game is full of books (plural), magic and strategy. And the stories are quite interesting too.
You play as Wright, a young apprentice studying under Yuisil, the Witch of Portals, in a place called the Ancient Library. Wright gets to jump into the stories of four magical books, each leading to a different world.
In one book, you’ll be helping a princess knight reclaim a fallen kingdom. In another book, you’ll deal with the mysteries of the underworld. Every decision you make shapes these worlds, so no two runs feel the same.
What’s the Gameplay of Novel Rogue Like?
The core of the game is a turn-based card battle system that shifts depending on which book you’re exploring. Each of the four worlds in Novel Rogue has its own deck-building system. Defeat enemies, pick from three new cards after each battle and build the ultimate deck.
There’s also a Change command that lets you shuffle damage between allies. Another feature called Novel Power lets you strengthen your deck by using ink. On the other hand, the Deep Record mode cranks up dungeon difficulty for high-stakes battles.
As you explore, you collect treasures to give to characters, boosting your relationship with them. They’ll later help you unlock a special ending. For style, Witch Stones let you swap out character costumes using your favourite looks.
Novel Rogue is available for free on the Google Play Store. There’s also a premium version of the game that gives you 150 bonus Witch Stones plus other perks like no ads.
