Nyeh, Yu-Gi-Oh Cross Duel adds Joey Wheeler, Mai Valentine and Brooklyn accents

Konami brings Yi-Gi-Oh Cross Duel to Brooklyn with its latest content drop. If you’re a fan of one of the most underrated  duellists in the entire series, you’ll be very pleased with this new update.

In the update, you’ll be able to play alongside both Joey Wheeler and Mai Valentine. Yes, yes, stop your shipping and get your game on already!

Yi-Gi-Oh Cross Duel adds more duellists

Designed around an all-new new event, Cross Duel’s latest drop introduces players to Joey Wheeler and Mai Valentine. The two are tied together as Tag Duel partners, fighting alongside each other in 2v2 bouts.

The new event is called Joey’s Road to a True Duelist. By playing through the new scenario, you’ll unlock new items surrounding Joey and his deck!

For example, there are new Profile Avatars, Deck Sleeves and Game Mats all designed around the duellist. Furthermore, via the new gacha card draws, you’ll be able to unlock the awesome classic monster: the Red-Eyes Black Dragon!

Other classic Yu-Gi-Oh monsters are also available to nab, just not as ace monsters. These additional monsters include Baby Dragon, Time Wizard and Gearfried the Iron Knight. Unfortunately, they act like their duel monsters counterparts, not the anime versions.

A fine update for a fine game?

The Joey update for Yi-Gi-Oh Cross Duel doesn’t sound like a massive update. Then again, with the fact that every monster in Cross Duel is fully modelled and animated, it does feel like a lot of work!

With every generation of the series getting some representation, it is nice to see Konami still shill for the classics. Who’s going to be in the next update? Tristan and his sister? Honestly, we hope so.
