Jagex’s Old School RuneScape has teamed up with Chess.com for a limited-time event. It’s running from November 3rd to November 30th, letting you test your strategy skills against ORS-themed chess bots. It’s quite an unusual crossover with a different kind of quest.
Old School RuneScape is swapping swords and spells for pawns and rooks by collaborating with Chess.com!
The new bots on Chess.com are inspired by some of Gielinor’s most memorable characters. Each bot brings its own personality and skill level, mirroring the quirks of its in-game counterparts.
For newbies to the chessboard, Bentnoze and Wartface are the ideal warm-up. The two Goblin generals, still arguing endlessly about armour colours and anything else they can disagree on, have a chess rating of 300.
Next up is Vannaka, the ever-familiar Slayer Master from Tutorial Island and Edgeville. He’s usually known for his straightforward teaching style and combat expertise. With a chess rating of 650, Vannaka offers a fair challenge for those who’ve already mastered the basics.
Bob the Cat comes with a rating of 1350. Once known as Robert the Strong, the black feline with a mysterious past brings agility and ancient wisdom to the game. A tougher opponent, he uses clever moves that reflect his centuries of experience wandering Gielinor.
Then there’s Sliske, the Mahjarrat known for manipulation and cunning schemes. If you’ve ever crossed paths with him in RuneScape lore, you’ll know he’s not one to underestimate. With a chess rating of 1800, Sliske is for those who enjoy psychological warfare on the board.
And finally, the ultimate test stands with the Wise Old Man. The blue-robed wizard of Draynor is famous for his intellect and his questionable choice of robbing a bank in his later years. With a staggering chess rating of 3150, he represents the grandmaster level of the Old School RuneScape x Chess.com crossover.
