Old School RuneScape has launched its latest skill, Sailing. For the first time in the game’s long history, members can log in and begin training this completely new skill. It’s a community-chosen addition and joins the roster of skills after almost a decade of no new skills.

What was once decorative blue space surrounding the mainland has become a full explorable region. Race to reach level 99 and claim the new Sailing Skill Cape designed by community member Gentle Tractor.

Go Sailing in Old School RuneScape!

The journey begins in the familiar docks of Port Sarim. You step aboard and make your way toward Pandemonium. Pandemonium functions as a homely port where new sailors learn the basics before venturing into rougher waters.

Sailing in Old School RuneScape revolves around crafting and upgrading a personal vessel. It starts as a simple raft and grows with each level. You gradually gain better wood types, expanded cargo holds, fresh cannon options, and new onboard facilities.

Instead of stationary skilling loops, you physically travel across the sea in search of quests, creatures, and activities that reward XP. A spyglass becomes the primary method of charting routes and picking port tasks.

Every trip offers a different mix of encounters. From prying open rum crates to solving mermaid riddles to digging through lost shipwrecks for salvageable treasure.

Exploration also introduces new regions and species

There are the Tortugan inhabitants of The Great Conch Island. The waters here are far from peaceful. Sharks and orcas now patrol the waves, frost dragons descend from above, and gryphons strike from the skies.

Shipbuilding is a major branch of progression for Sailing in Old School RuneScape. It encourages you to chop newly introduced tree types, fletch logs, mine unique ores, and fish for marine species. New coral nurseries even allow the creation of powerful potions. For some less-lawful activities, you can steal pirate treasure or swipe goods from market stalls scattered across islands!

In case you haven’t played the game for a while, maybe now is a good time to go back. Get it from the Google Play Store.
