Lychee Game’s Patch Quest is now out on Android, brought to you by Crunchyroll. It was released on PC in early access in May 2021 and later had a full release in March 2023. It draws from a bunch of genres, including roguelike, bullet hell, metroidvania and monster-taming.
Explore a Shuffling Patchwork Maze Full of Monsters in Patch Quest
The game is set in Patchlantis, an island full of patches. Every run shuffles the island’s layout, so no two explorations will play out the same way.
Your only constant is the lasso, which acts as more than a tool in the game. It’s your lifeline. With it, you can wrangle over 50 monster species. That number goes up when you count the subspecies, which add more variety to the ways you can get around or survive a tight fight.
Every monster can be tamed, mounted, and used as a way to traverse the hazardous environment. Some of them fly. Some swim. Others tunnel underground or zip through dangerous gaps. The Buzzerker, for instance, turns itself into a living harpoon. The Sandamander digs to safety. Torrentoise can deflect attacks with its shell, while Combusdile lays down a barrier of flames.

How’s the Combat?
The game has a relentless bullet-hell system. Enemies flood the screen with projectiles while you mount abilities. Every failed run gives you something to take back. A new shortcut, a stronger pet or a better understanding of how the island works.
There are over 200 different plants and minerals scattered around the island. You can turn many of the fruits into buffs by blending them into ammo smoothies along the way. You can also use them to unlock new gear that expands your movement and options.
