PlayAndroid.com opens up their doors, plans to help game developers get discovered

German company, Rumble Media, has opened the doors to their newest site called PlayAndroid which is a portal dedicated to nothing but Android games. This discovery portal is geared towards trying to help solve the problem of finding good high-quality games on the Android Market. Granted the new web-based market helps with that a bit.

The games are selected by an in-house editorial staff who go through the Android Market looking for top-notch games that are non-adult based and violence-free. Depending on your definition of violence, you might not be able to find some pretty solid games on PlayAndroid due to the violence-free standard.

When you find a game you like on the site, you can download it via the QR Code provided which just takes your Android device to the game inside the Android Market. Rumble Media also plans to do what GetJar does and will be offering games exclusively from developers on PlayAndroid in the future as well as offer a revenue share model for developers. Sounds like they will be expanding into actually hosting games on PlayAndroid for download and purchase in the future.

Premium Android game portal Playandroid.com is live

With the launch of Playandroid.com, a new era of Android game distribution has started.

Karlsruhe/ Germany (Febuary 20, 2011) – Rumble Media announced today that it has launched the world’s first gaming portal solely dedicated to games for Google’s Android platform. The service can be reached under www.playandroid.com and allows users to download Android games directly to their device.

“Android will be the next Windows. What Microsoft is for the PC is Google for the smartphone. And gaming will be at forefront of this new movement”, says David An, Founder & Managing Director of Germany based Rumble Media and continues: “Currently, the Android Market is the dominating download platform. There are some horizontal portals offering a broad spectrum of app categories, however Playandroid.com is the first vertical gaming portal and community for Android premium game users.”

The service aims at solving the “mobile app discovery problem” which is inherent to app stores once they become too big. Independent developers are having a hard time being found in incumbent app stores simply because of the sheer volume of games and competitive advertising budgets. Furthermore, users need more reliability regarding the right choice of games.

“We aim at solving the mobile app discovery problem through our editorially selected premium games in a social community environment”, explains David An. This is done by an inhouse editorial team which only selects premium Android games – violent-free and non-adult content. Additionally, users can register for free with their Facebook account, follow and vote for other Android game developers and other friends. Developers can communicate with Playandroid.com users via developer profile pages and user-written game reviews. Games are easily installed via scanning QR codes.

In the near future, Rumble Media will offer a mobile optimized page and Android apps which will offer games exclusively for a short period of time. For this, the company will closely work with Android game developers. Revenues will be shared with them using three models:

  1. In-app advertising

  2. In-app item sale revenues

  3. Paid game downloads
