Mega Evolution is making its way into Pokémon TCG Pocket! Yep, it’s great news. The reveal was made at the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim. There were some other major announcements, too. So, keep reading to get the full scoop.
Get ready to welcome Mega Evolution to Pokémon TCG Pocket!
During the closing ceremony at PWC 2025, three Mega Evolution cards were officially shown for the very first time in Pocket. They are Mega Altaria ex, Mega Blaziken ex and Mega Gyarados ex.
The reveal also confirmed that Pocket will skip the traditional evolution method used in the base TCG altogether. Instead of needing the regular form to Mega Evolve, Mega Blaziken evolves directly from Combusken, Mega Gyarados from Magikarp and Mega Altaria from Swablu.
With their massive 210 HP stat and extremely high damage output, these Mega Pokémon immediately raise one question. How do you balance something that powerful in Pocket’s current points system?
Well, the answer is that knocking out a Mega Evolved Pokémon will award the opponent three points. Considering that three points currently end the match, it instantly makes Mega ex a high-risk card that absolutely cannot be thrown out at the start of a battle.
Another interesting point is the regional focus. Two of the three cards (Mega Blaziken and Mega Altaria) are from the Hoenn region, which hasn’t been represented in Pocket so far. At the moment, it’s still unclear whether the Mega Evolution cards will be part of the A Series or if they will mark the beginning of the B Series.
When are the new cards launching?
They’re coming this fall, so you may be able to get your hands on them in October. While additional details will likely arrive closer to release, Mega Evolution in Pokémon TCG Pocket is certainly going to be a high-risk, high-reward mechanic.
