The Resident Evil franchise is getting a new mobile game named Resident Evil Survival Unit. But it’s not another zombie shooter or haunted mansion puzzle. You’ll be orchestrating units and planning attacks actually.
Survival Unit is going to be a real-time strategy game that flips the familiar survival horror vibe into something entirely different. It’s a big shift, especially for a series that has been all about claustrophobic tension and limited ammo since 1996.
Aniplex is teaming up with JoyCity Corporation and Capcom for the new Resident Evil Survival Unit mobile game. Aniplex is best known for anime games like Demon Slayer and Fate/Grand Order. While JoyCity has developed games like Gunship Battle: Total Warfare and Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War.
When Is Resident Evil Survival Unit, the Mobile Game, Coming Out?
Resident Evil Survival Unit is planned for a global rollout. It will launch in North America, Europe, and Asia, including Japan and South Korea. There’s no set date of release yet.
Even the gameplay details are still under wraps. What we do know is that Aniplex and JoyCity are holding an online showcase on July 10th at 10:00 PM UTC. Here’s the link for the showcase so that you don’t miss it later.
Starting with Biohazard i Survivor in 2001, the Resident Evil franchise has given us multiple mobile games. But almost all of them were of the survival horror genre. Moving away from its usual genre is a pretty bold gamble for the franchise after it has always reinvented itself in some form.
