Rival Kingdoms is an upcoming multiplayer RTS game landing in early 2015

Space Ape Games has been working on a new multiplayer RTS game called Rival Kingdoms and the interesting thing about this particular title is that the fantasy world, backstory, and characters were all created by the writer for the recent reboot of Tomb Raider, Rhianna Pratchett.

Rival Kingdoms will have all the mechanics you would normally find in a RTS game such as building up your city, researching new technology, building up your forces and so on. However, considering who is writing this, there is also quite a lot of storyline to play through. In this game players will be trying to discover the ‘secrets of the Ancients’. When you do, you will be able to unleash them onto your enemies as well which makes for some pretty handy weaponry.

This game will focus a lot on the storyline and delivering a rich narrative that you will actually want to read. Since this is a multiplayer game, there will be a Guild feature as well for you and your friends to create your own guild, or join one that is already active. Apparently the developers have also tried to focus more on the gameplay itself with more action than having to do the administrative stuff like managing your city. You’ll still have to do those activities but it sounds like Space Ape has made them a bit more simplified or easier to manage.

We’re really excited to announce Rival Kingdoms. We’ve spent a lot of time honing in on what exactly makes this genre a lot of fun to play – building a fantastical army to smash your opponents, working together with your alliance and winning big.  Rival Kingdoms takes its genre to the next level, with more action and much less admin. Say goodbye to monotonous tapping. – Simon Hade, COO & CFO of Space Ape Games

Like a lot of games are doing these days, Rival Kingdoms has a pre-launch registration event where you have a chance to win some helpful and unique in-game items if you choose to sign up between now and the game’s launch. You can do this over at the game’s official website which actually looks pretty good. You can also grab a sneak peak at the game through the teaser trailer below. Hopefully it doesn’t bank to heavily on game’s like Clash of Clans and how they do things.
