Remember the treasure hunter poll by Jagex? Last month, they hosted a community vote to decide the future of RuneScape’s monetisation. And now the results are out! Keep reading to know what RuneScape players want to do about the Treasure Hunter microtransactions.
Bye-bye, Treasure Hunter microtransactions from RuneScape!
RuneScape is about to enter one of the most defining chapters in its long history. Jagex confirmed today that Treasure Hunter microtransactions will be permanently removed from RuneScape on January 19th, 2026.
October’s massive community vote drew over 120,000 participants. The result reflects a clear message from players who have been asking for fairer gameplay and a stronger sense of integrity in the classic MMORPG.
Treasure Hunter first appeared in 2014 as a daily feature. Players could use keys to win rewards such as XP boosts, in-game gold, and items that made progression faster. Initially, every player received a few free keys each day.
But gradually, the system’s option to buy additional keys became one of the most significant microtransaction systems in RuneScape. For years, players voiced concerns that such paid shortcuts undermined the game’s core experience.
So, after more than a decade, Jagex is finally taking action. Better late than never, I guess! On January 19th, Treasure Hunter will be gone entirely, along with 225 Direct XP and Skilling-related items.
All the changes are part of a much larger shift known as the Integrity Roadmap
The Integrity Roadmap is a year-long initiative through which Jagex aims to rebuild the game around fairness, depth, and trust. Apparently, the roadmap will tackle everything from the user interface and combat systems to early and mid-game progression, daily mechanics, and the game’s overall visual identity.
More details on the Integrity Roadmap will be shared later. The same day Treasure Hunter disappears, Jagex will post a special RuneScape Ahead presentation on the game’s YouTube channel. We’ll get a full look at it and also know more about the 2026 content lineup.
