Sceptre’s new sound bar will also turn your HDTV into an Android SmartTV

We don’t usually post about SmartTV type of products as usually most are pretty similar to each other. However Sceptre has gotten into the SmartTV scene but with their new SB301524W Speaker Sound Bar 2.1. It’s an interesting product that is coming from a company that makes some pretty solid TVs and monitors that a fair amount of PC and console gamers like to use.

The sound bar is a wall-mounted unit that features 35W subwoofer with passive radiator, SRS WOW HD™ audio technology (developed by DTS Technologies) and dual front facing speakers. This sound bar is going to have some top quality sound coming out of it which is great but Sceptre has also integrated the Android OS into the sound bar along with WiFi connectivity. The whole set-up in general is pretty much plug-n-play and you’ll end up turning your current HDTV into a SmartTV running Android that will also be pumping out some pretty solid audio.

The Sound Bar 2.1 with built-in subwoofer and Android Platform turns your traditional HDTV into a Smart TV at a fraction of the cost. Our newest addition to the family of sound bars not only enhances your HDTV experience, but also brings people closer by giving you access to the same applications as a computer, including Skype, Facebook, Instant Messenger and more. – Cathy Chou, Sceptre’s vice president of operations

Needless to say that with the current state of affairs with Android-powered consoles, which is currently being debated here in the comments section in various articles and on our forums, this ends up being another interesting way to possibly play Android games on your big HDTV while sitting on your couch. Just to make sure you have everything you need, Sceptre also has a second optional remote control you can get that replicates the functionality of a traditional mouse and keyboard.

Even better, you don’t have to wait until the product launches at some point in the near future because it has begun going on sale today through a variety of retail outlets such as Walmart, Amazon, Tiger Direct, Sears, K-Mart and NewEgg. It’ll cost you $299 to pick one of these up.
