Of course, there’s the joyful feeling of flying. But I feel like the most appealing feature of thatgamecompany’s Sky: Children of the Light is its breathtaking visuals. Accentuating it further, Sky: Children of the Light is dropping a new event called Dear Van Gogh.

Dear Van Gogh is a new interactive experience in Sky: Children of the Light

It focuses on the life, art, and personal relationships of the famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. Kicking off on July 17th, 2026, it will take you through key moments of his life through exploration, storytelling, and interactive environments inspired by his artwork.

Dear Van Gogh places you inside a living version of the artist’s work. The experience follows Van Gogh’s journey from his early uncertainties through his transformative years in Paris and into the final period of his life. You’ll travel through recreations of his paintings, watching different chapters of his story unfold from within the worlds he painted.

The event highlights the relationship between Vincent and his brother Theo van Gogh. Their decades-long exchange of letters forms the emotional backbone of Dear Van Gogh. Through those letters, you witness Vincent’s doubts, ambitions, struggles, and moments of wonder, alongside Theo’s unwavering encouragement and support.

The correspondence between the two brothers has long been considered one of history’s most significant artistic records. So, Sky uses those writings to explore how essential that relationship was to Van Gogh’s creative life.

Another important figure in the story is Johanna van Gogh-Bonger, Theo’s wife. Acting as a guide throughout the experience, Johanna helps you understand the often unseen support system that surrounded Vincent.

The story also touches on how the birth of her son inspired Van Gogh to enter a new phase of painting. Beyond that, you learn about Johanna’s efforts after Vincent’s death. It includes her dedication to promoting and preserving his work following the artist’s tragic death at the age of 37.

As they say, great art rarely survives on talent alone. Take a look at the event’s trailer below. And to experience it, grab the game from the Google Play Store.
