Solid Clouds, an indie studio based in Iceland, has released a new expansion Voidbreach, for its sci-fi battle-shooter Starborne: Frontiers. The expansion adds a new mode of play and a reworked Alliance Vault to the tactical autobattler.
But have you played the game before?
Starborne: Frontiers takes place 400 years in the future and mixes autobattler systems with squad-based tactical decision-making. You assemble fleets from hundreds of legendary starships, customise their loadouts with equipment, and arrange formations.
The game includes a story-driven campaign focused on restoring order to the Frontier, bounty missions, and a PvP arena. It’s set on the edge of galactic civilisation, where factions from Earth, Luna, Mars, and other regions compete for dominance.
So, what new does Voidbreach bring to Starborne: Frontiers?
The expansion introduces Void Breaches, a new semi-roguelike mode. It extends progression beyond the existing limits of the Abyss. Rather than moving through fixed encounters, you’ll get to travel across semi-linear maps with branching paths, combat nodes, and unpredictable events.
Crafting will also change due to the introduction of new materials. You can create Void Catalysts that define a baseline difficulty depth and influence the type of loot you want to pursue. During each run, you can collect Void Shards to raise the final rewards. You can also unlock multiple options that introduce new mechanics affecting how battles play out.
Lastly, Alliance-based play is also changing with a complete overhaul of the Alliance Vault. What was once primarily a leaderboard-focused activity is now a multi-phase raid that scales in difficulty. Participation is now a key source of resources needed to craft Void Catalysts. Daily contributions to the Alliance raid feed back into individual Void runs.
Starborne: Frontiers is available to play for free on the Google Play Store. Also, be sure to read our scoop on Persona 5: The Phantom X’s Latest Update, Version 2.6, with New Phantom Thief Noir.
