The Eternal Castle Remastered is now out on mobile. Renamed as The Eternal Castle [R] Mobile, it brings the old-school platformer to Android with some pretty modern mechanics. With stark visuals and a classic rhythm of play, the original title was first released in 1987.
Advanced for its time
Set several hundred years in the future after a post-AI fallout, the game takes you through a bleak, cinematic world. Progression involves repeated dream-like cycles where you meditate, predict, and wake up within the eternal dream. You can choose to experience the journey through Adam or Eve.
The Eternal Castle Remastered Mobile offers replayability. Its random events, encounters, traps, riddles, and exploration form a semi-procedural framework that changes how each run unfolds. Catch a glimpse of the game before diving into the new features.
Moving forward, you fight your way through the Ancient Ruins, shoot through the Forgotten City, sneak past monsters in the Unholy Lab, and eventually enter the Eternal Castle. Along the way, there are 4 GLIDERS to collect, each one used to power up your ship.
You also get 10 different weapons and 10 different items to unlock. Finding all missing FRAGMENTS helps you in your goal of getting back home. The dream can be repeated as many times as possible before finally reaching the end.
How’s the combat in The Eternal Castle Remastered Mobile?
Combat and movement are a mix of fast-paced melee action, calibrated ranged attacks, and cautious stealth approaches. The game uses polished 2-bit CGA animated graphics and a hyper-limited palette that mirrors the era it draws from.
On Android, the game is available for $5.99. You can check it out on the Google Play Store and decide for yourself how that myth of The Eternal Castle holds up today.
